This was under the bodywork of their threat to leave F1 in '86. FIA wanted to make all f1 engines v8 ....and Ezo bitched them out, taking the ball and about to leave. building and testing this car, the FIA caved and Enzo stayed in F1. The coolest part was the top exit exhaust! Nobody else ran that. I'm sure it cleaned up the underside venturi's as the bottom exit pipes didn't have to bend outward and take up aero space. The Alfa engine was only partly based based on this engine, some say it is entirely separate. It had conventional exhausts by then but had a flat plane crank wich gave it a weird and cool noise at indy.

Did the Alfa ever run? I remember the Ferrari was just that, a test/threat from Ferrari, but I don't recall reading much about the Alfa.
